A Whole Animal

Exhibition & Easter Market

On Sunday, March 29

Hosting Lands weaving into Lystbækgaard, the farm of shepherdess Berit Kiilerich

Lystbækvej 1, Ulfborg, West Jutland

With contributors:

Elyes Lariani — Rahima Gambo and Tatsuniya Artist Collective — Marie Kølbæk Iversen — Marianne Noer — Ellen Martine Heuser — Lise Hovesen

A Whole Animal is a Hosting Lands project unfolding within the annual Easter Market at Lystbækgaard in Ulfborg, West Jutland.

Rather than separating art from life, the exhibition weaves itself into the market. Artworks appear among crafters’ stalls, wool processing, weaving, plant dyeing, animals, and communal exchange. The market celebrates pastoral traditions and art as everyday practice.

A Whole Animal foregrounds forms of resistance to industrial abstraction through care, slowness, and embodied human–animal–land relations.

A Whole Animal is part of Hosting Lands and its ongoing work with land, commons, and ecological solidarity.

The Shared Meal

At the center of the exhibition is a collective lamb meal conceived as artwork and celebration, bridging Tunisian culinary traditions with local heathland practices. The lamb dinner is a shared wish between HL curator Aziza Harmel and shepherdess Berit Kiilerich, which has grown from conversations around mutualities in traditions across cultures and geographical contexts. Therefore, we have invited Tunisian chef Elyes Lariani to prepare a lamb feast that will honor the whole animal.
Lariani will be unfolding three ateliers in total. On Friday the 27th the meals will be prepared during workshops as part of the Shepherd School programme, and later served as a shared long-table dinner on Sunday afternoon at 5 pm.

The dinner is open to everyone. Price: 50 DKK. Sign-up required (limited seats) see below.

Merguez – fresh lamb transformed into spiced sausages through balancing, seasoning, and preservation practices.

Osban – stuffed lamb casing using offal, herbs, grains, and greens, honoring secondary cuts and preventing waste.

Lamb Stock – slow simmering of bones and trimmings into nourishing broth, extending the animal’s life beyond a single meal.

Installations

Nigerian Tatsuniya Artist Collective and Rahima Gambo presents two art installations Sukursukur – eleven suspended raffia hammocks forming a sculptural installation and Market Remains – a six-meter embroidered textile responding to the 2023 Monday Market fire that displaced thousands of traders.
